From the mountains of Yunnan
to the cities we call home

GutCommon began with a simple question:

What if the future of modern health has always existed in traditional wisdom?

Our story connects the highlands of Yunnan with modern city life — bringing together ancient food traditions, cutting-edge gut health research, and the communities who have preserved this knowledge for generations.

Why Gut Health Matters Today

Over the past decade, scientific research has reshaped how we understand health. The gut microbiome is now recognised as a central pillar of wellbeing — influencing immunity, digestion, metabolism, mental health, and long-term disease risk.

Yet modern urban lifestyles are increasingly disconnected from the natural food systems that once nourished our microbiome. Highly processed diets, stress, pollution, and reduced exposure to natural microbes have created a growing gap between how we live and how humans evolved to live.

Researchers now consistently find that traditional diets — rich in natural fermentation and slow food processes — help restore microbial diversity and resilience.

In many ways, modern science is rediscovering what traditional communities never forgot.

A Journey of Listening

GutCommon began with years of travel through Tibetan regions and ethnic minority villages in Yunnan.

Our founder, Francis, travelled not as a tourist, but as a listener — sharing meals, learning from farmers, and observing how centuries-old food traditions supported entire communities.

What began as cultural exploration became deeply personal. A health challenge led Francis to explore gut health and probiotic science, revealing a powerful connection: the same fermentation and natural-process foods perfected in remote mountain communities were closely aligned with the newest discoveries in microbiome research.

Ancient wisdom and modern science were speaking the same language.

GutCommon community — Yunnan

Bridging Mountains and Cities

GutCommon exists to build a bridge between two worlds.

We seek out traditional foods and ingredients created through slow fermentation, biodiversity, and deep respect for nature — foods never designed for mass production, but for nourishment and resilience.

Our mission is to bring these discoveries to modern city life in a responsible and respectful way.

  • For city communities, this means reconnecting with foods that support gut health and long-term wellbeing.
  • For rural communities, this means creating sustainable opportunities that value their knowledge, culture, and environment.

Supporting Farmers, Preserving Culture

Every GutCommon partnership is built on long-term relationships with small-scale farmers and village producers.

We believe the future of food should empower rural communities — not exploit them.

Through direct collaboration, we aim to:

  • Improve income stability and livelihoods
  • Preserve traditional craftsmanship and food heritage
  • Protect biodiversity and local ecosystems
  • Encourage younger generations to stay connected to their culture

Our goal is not to industrialise tradition, but to help it thrive sustainably in the modern world.

A Sustainable Project Supported by Radica

GutCommon is a sustainability initiative supported by Radica Systems Limited, a MarTech SaaS company that believes technology and business can play a meaningful role in creating positive social impact.

Radica provides resources, technology, and long-term support to help this project grow responsibly and sustainably.

When the time is right, GutCommon will evolve into an independent social enterprise — continuing its mission to improve health, support rural communities, and preserve traditional food culture.

Thank You

To the farmers, partners, researchers, and supporters who believe in this journey — thank you.

Better health for cities can begin in the mountains.
